Benefit Submission Process

Process

STEP 1:

Determine your military education benefits eligibility with the US Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) or with the California Department of Veteran Affairs (CalVet) and apply for the benefit.

STEP 2:

Submit Proof of Benefits

If you’ve recently received a new education benefit—such as a VA Certificate of Eligibility (COE) or a CalVet College Fee Waiver Award Letter—please submit your documentation through the appropriate portal:

VA Benefits (e.g., Chapter 33, Chapter 35, or Chapter 31):
Submit via the VA BaMBI Portal (Bruin and Military Benefit Intake)
CalVet Fee Waiver (Plan A or B):
Submit via the CalVet BaMBI Portal (Bruin and Military Benefit Intake)

The CalVet-specific portal was created to streamline state benefit processing and reduce confusion with federal VA programs.

Reminders:

You only need to submit your VA proof of benefits once, unless your benefit type changes.
The CalVet Fee Waiver must be renewed and resubmitted every academic year. Apply through your County Veterans Service Office (CVSO), then upload the updated waiver annually through the CalVet portal.

Notes:

Do not send documents via email. It’s not a secure platform for documents that may contain SSN#’s. We will not process or open these documents sent via email.

Additional Summer Requirements:

If you are taking summer classes, you must also complete the summer benefit request form.

If You a Visiting Student to UCLA or Planning on Attending Another University as a Guest Student:

You must complete the UC Parent School Letter with your summer request and COE/CalVet submission.
